In a reading, the Life Path number tells me who you are at your core. The destiny number numerology gives me tells me what you are here to do. They are related but not the same — and when they conflict, that conflict is usually the source of whatever brought the client to me in the first place.
This distinction matters more in practice than almost any other in the chart. I have worked with clients who understood their Life Path well but felt permanently at odds with their own sense of purpose. The answer was almost always in the Destiny number. The vehicle was fine. The reason the full birth name is used for the Destiny number — not a married name, not a nickname, not a legally changed name — is that the birth name carries the original energetic blueprint assigned at the start of this life. In Chaldean numerology, the name given at birth is understood as the first act of numerological encoding in a person’s story. It reflects the potential of what that life is meant to express. Names change over time for many reasons, and those changes do have an effect on daily vibration, but they do not alter the foundational Destiny number.
What this means in a practical reading is that I always look at both numbers together. A Life Path 7 (the seeker, the analyst, the one who needs depth) with a Destiny 3 (the communicator, the creative, the one who needs to express and connect) creates a particular kind of internal tension. Life Path 5 with Destiny 4. The Life Path says: move freely, stay adaptable, resist rigid structure, explore widely.
